Su Wei, a professor at the Party School of the Chongqing Committee, told the Global Times that despite the unprecedented speed and scale of China’s economic development, China’s economic advantage has not translated into a strong voice on international affairs.

重庆党委党校教授苏伟（音）告诉《环球时报》，说尽管中国经济速度和规模空前，但是中国在经济上的优势还没有转变成在国际事务上的强大影响力。

"The key to this issue is to rebuild discourse about the country. Theoretical innovation in philosophy and social sciences is the pillar of this cause," Zhang Weiwei, dean of the China Institute at Fudan University, was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

新华社引述复旦大学中国研究所所长张伟伟（音）的话说：“这一问题的关键是要重建我国的话语权，而在哲学和社会科学上的理论创新是重建话语权的关键。”

Xi also said that the country’s study of philosophy and social sciences should focus on China and the contemporary era while taking foreign studies and history into account and keeping concern for mankind and the future in mind.

习近平还强调到，我国对哲学和社会科学的研究应该着眼于中国和当今时代，同时把外国的（相关）研究和历史纳入考虑，并且关注全人类和世界的未来。

"Chinese scholars’ studies in philosophy and social sciences do not match the country’s progress during reform and opening up. Efforts are therefore needed to examine China’s successful experiences," a Beijing-based research fellow who asked for anonymity told the Global Times.

一位不愿意透露姓名的北京研究员告诉《环球时报》，说：“中国学者在哲学和社会科学方面的研究和我国在改革开放过程中所取得的成就是不相匹配的。因此现在需要付出更多的努力来研究中国的成功经历。”

Xi stressed that the guiding ideology, discourse and scholastic systems of these fields should incorporate Chinese characteristics.

习近平还强调说，这些领域的指导思想、话语权和学术体系都应该具有中国特色。

"There are quite a few development modes for developing countries to use for reference, but some officials and scholars have mechanically applied Western theories and experiences to China’s development," Su said.

苏伟伟说：“有很多发展模式可供发展中国家借鉴使用，但一些官员和学者却机械地照搬西方的理论经验来指导中国的发展。”

"By establishing its own theoretical structure, China can turn its experiences into theories and offer other developing countries a reference for their own development," he continued, adding that such moves will also promote Chinese culture throughout the world.

他还说道：“（一旦）建立自己的理论体系，中国就能够把自己的经历上升到理论的高度，还能够给其他发展中国家提供一个借鉴，以促进其自身发展。”他还补充说这一举措还能促进中国文化在全世界传播。

An important task for philosophy and social sciences in China is to continue pushing for the sinolization, modernization and popularization of Marxism, Xi said.
